Dental Implants

Dental Implants at Crestview Dental GroupAfter dealing with tooth loss, it is important that you put another tooth or similar structure in the area where the original teeth once were. The gums and the jaw bone beneath the gums need to be regularly used as they were with original teeth to stay strong and healthy. One of the best options to be able to replace a missing tooth (or several missing teeth) is through dental implants. Here at Crestview Dental Group, we can help get you set up with a new set of implants. All you have to do is start the process by calling us to set up a consultation.

What Exactly Are Dental Implants?

A dental implant is a frame or a post that is surgically placed in your jaw, right under the gums. These posts, then need to heal up, but once they are healed, you have replacement teeth that are permanently put on top, and you can go about your life like you never lost a tooth in the first place. One of the biggest draws people have to dental implants is the fact that they can function just like your original tooth did. Once the healing is complete, you do not have the same restrictions as you would with dentures. These implants are connected to posts that have fused into your bones, making them a strong, healthy option for keeping your mouth and jaw healthy long-term.

What Can Dental Implants Offer that Dentures Wouldn’t?

Since the frame or the post is put directly into your jaw, and because it is made with titanium, it can fuse directly to your jaw. This makes the jaw and the implant become a single, cohesive unit after it has completely healed. This allows your dental implant to be strong and supported in the same manner as your original tooth was. Dentures can slip around, slide out of place, or make speaking and chewing much more difficult. These are non-issues when you have dental implants. They are more secure fitting than any other type of remedy for missing teeth.

Dentures can be uncomfortable for some people, as their jaw may have already begun resorption from where the original tooth was lost or from wearing dentures for an extended period. In most cases, this will either make it to where the person is unable to get implants or needs a bit of grafting done to make the procedure possible. Partials need to have some connection to your surrounding teeth to remain in place. Dental implants do not. They allow all of your healthy teeth to remain so because they are only there to replace a single tooth or gap at a time. One thing to take note of, however, is that you can get dentures that sit on your implants. This gives you the dentures to fill in larger spots where teeth have gone missing, such as an upper or lower arch, but the stability of implants.
